French toast is a perfect way to start your day - nothing compares to that first crunchy and delicious bite during your breakfast. However, preparing this amazing treat isn't as simple as you think; after all, you only need to batter the eggs and soak the bread, right?

Not quite, there are a few things that most people make, that can ruin this dish. For this reason, at Great Harvest in Cookeville, we would like to tell you about some of the most common french toast cooking mistakes.

The Mixture

Make sure to whisk the mixture thoroughly, that way, you will be sure to get all the ingredients together. Don't add too much sugar to the custard, unless you have a sweet tooth, remember that you will also be pouring syrup or marmalade on it. Too much milk can also be a problem, and it won't allow the egg to cook.

Bread

Stale bread will absorb the mixture without going soggy - try to cut 1 inch slices and make sure to soak it in the egg mixture for at least one minute per side, so it absorbs as much custard as possible for a soft and delicious center.

Heat

Try to use a nonstick skillet and make sure to preheat it! Just remember that the sugar in the mixture will burn easily giving you a soggy french toast. Medium heat should be fine, cook each side for about 3 minutes, or until you get a nice golden color.

These simple tips will make your french toast even more delicious -  don't forget them next time you want perfection in your kitchen.
